The government has announced a consultation on how the police should use facial recognition technology. This could include having everyone's passport photo on file, so the police could check it against CCTV and doorbell and dash cams. The Met is already using the tech and says it has helped make 1,300 arrests in the past two years - but civil liberties groups object to its use.
