Why should I have to pay back my £36k disability benefit?

Available for over a year

A petition's been launched for a Telford man facing a £36k repayment to the DWP. Shaun Rigby lost a leg in a tractor accident when he was two and has claimed Personal Independence Payments since 2016. But the The Department of Work and Pensions decided to withdraw his "PIP" after their attention was drawn to a video of him playing cricket in 2023. His family argue that "participating in adaptive sports is a well-known form of rehabilitation and psychological well-being for individuals with disabilities". Shaun and his wife Lauren told BBC Radio Shropshire's Kate Baldock about their ongoing dispute with the DWP.
