Dexter Fletcher, Actor and Director

Dexter Fletcher was born in Enfield in 1966 and grew up in Woodford Green and Palmers Green; his parents were teachers. His debut as an actor came in 1976, when he was still a boy, appearing as Baby Face in Bugsy Malone. Since then he’s appeared in more than 40 films and TV shows. His notable roles include the small town criminal ‘Soap’ in Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Tony the concierge in comedy drama Hotel Babylon. In 1997, he married Lithuanian film and theatre director Dalia Ibelhauptaitė. He was granted Lithuanian citizenship in recognition of his work promoting Lithuanian cultural affairs. These days he directs more than he acts, with biopics Eddie the Eagle, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Rocketman among his film making credits. Dexter Fletcher revealed hisfavourite haunts, memories, pet hates and everything in between with Robert Elms. This interview was first broadcast on BBC Radio London in July 2009.
