'The roof is starting to come off now'
Available for over a year
Hurricane Melissa has carved a path of destruction through Jamaica, battering the island with brutal winds and torrential rain. The country has been declared a "disaster area", with much of it still without power and some areas left underwater. The storm has been downgraded and is now moving over Cuba. People in Jamaica, thousands of whom spent the night in shelters, are still being warned of landslides and flash flooding. A couple from Durham have been stranded there, unable to leave their sea facing hotel. Ian and Trudi Ferguson, from Witton Gilbert, were told to barricade themselves in their bathroom. Their daughter Robyn Laverick is over here and has been trying to stay in contact with them. She spoke to BBC Radio Newcastle's Matt Bailey.
