The comedian Micky Flanagan is one of the most recognisable Londoners on television. He was born in Whitechapel in 1962, and grew up in Bethnal Green. Before becoming a comedian he worked as a fish porter, a furniture maker and window cleaner. He also trained as a teacher but decided not to pursue it as a career, later describing the experience as "the unhappiest year of my life”. In his 30 years as a comedian he’s toured the UK four times, done hundreds of stand-up gigs, and appeared on Mock the Week, A League of Their Own and 8 Out of 10 Cats.
