Factory demolition decision slammed by historians
Available for over a year
Local history groups have condemned the decision by councillors to approve plans to demolish most of an historic Leicester factory. Developers plan to flatten much of the Corah site off Burleys Way which dates back to 1865, and replace it with 1,100 homes, including blocks of flats up to 18 storeys high, bars, restaurants and a hotel. Leicester City Council's planning committee approved a planning application for the scheme after a two-and-a-half hour debate on Wednesday. The city council says it's an important regeneration project. BBC Leicester's Political reporter Dan Martin was at the council meeting, and Local Historian Jim Butler spoke to BBC Leicester's Ady Dayman.
