Sophie Ellis-Bextor was born in Hounslow in 1979 to Janet Ellis, who was a presenter on Blue Peter, and Robin Bextor, a film producer and director. She’s married Richard Jones, the bassist in the band The Feeling, and together they have five sons. She first came to prominence in the late 1990s as the lead vocalist of the indie rock band Theaudience. After the group disbanded, she went solo and achieved success in the early 2000s. To date she’s released eight studio albums. In recent times she’s experienced a resurgence in popularity thanks to her "Kitchen Disco" concerts during lockdown, which offered a window into her often chaotic family life. Also, when her best-known track "Murder on the Dancefloor" was featured in the 2023 film Saltburn, which led to the song achieving a new peak of number two on the Singles Chart.
