Sir Francis Drake was a famous explorer but not much is known about his first wife Mary Newman, who was born in Saltash. Mary Drake died in January 1583 at the age of 30 and she was buried in a vault inside St Budeaux Church, which is where the couple married. Photo credit: Elizabeth Dale.
