Marina Tabassum on designing the 2025 Serpentine Pavilion

Newshour

Available for over a year

It's become one of the architectural events of the year. For the past quarter of a century, London's Serpentine Gallery has hosted an experimental structure on its front lawn over the summer months. The first pop-up pavilion was the late Dame Zaha Hadid's reinvention of a marquee. The Silver Jubilee Commission has gone to the Bangladeshi architect, Marina Tabassum. Best known for low-cost, sustainable homes, made of bamboo and grass, for refugees and people affected by climate change in her native country, her pavilion is called "A Capsule In Time". James Coomarasamy met Marina Tabassum at her capsule and she told him more about her design. (Photo credit: Getty Images)
