The first ever play about the Castlemorton rave

Upload with Nina Das Gupta

Available for over a year

The 1992 event which changed music history has been turned in to a stage production, reflecting the sudden impact of over 20,000 people suddenly turning up in rural Worcestershire. Rachel Tobin's first production, The Last Free Rave, is coming to local venues in August 2025, and tells Phillip Stoneman about the process of turning a six-day, sweaty rave in the sun, in to something fit for the Malvern Coach House Theatre - which started with a prompt from the BBC! Alongside archive BBC footage, she says she wanted to tell a fictional story, based on stories she's heard over the years, of an interaction between a reveller, and a married farming couple. The production will be part of the Malvern Ink & Curtains Festival.
