Popular culture in the USA, 1920-1960

Bitesize GCSE History

Available for over a year

This is episode seven in our nine-part series on American history. In this series, Datshiane and Katie are exploring key developments and themes in 20th century American history. Episode seven of this nine-part series is all about popular culture. As they quick-step our way through the 1920s, Datshiane and Katie will jive through the 1930s, maybe even adding a rumba for good luck. They’ll then pick up the cultural thread after World War II, boogie-woogie-ing through the 1950s. And, if you're still on your feet, they’ll twist into the 1960s. However, culture isn't all about dancing. Popular culture covers much more, including music, cinema, art in any form, literature, sports, and basically anything society is creating for entertainment or as a way of expressing its ideas during that time. We’ll send our time-traveling reporter back to a significant moment in this cultural period. We'll also share our favourite revision tips and exam strategies to help you along the way. And as always, there’s plenty more to support your learning on BBC Bitesize. Suitable for AQA, Eduqas and OCR A.
