Gaby Dabrowski: Honouring female athletes lost to violence 'a passion of wanting to have a safer world'

An initiative backed by some of the biggest athletes in world sport aims to raise awareness, demand action, and honour the lives of female athletes lost to violence. Born from heartbreak, ‘1in3’ was created after the brutal murder of Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei following the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. One of those involved in the Athletes Collective is Canadian doubles Grand Slam winning tennis star Gaby Dabrowski. “My interest in ‘1in3’ is because the stat was so powerful. I felt like I couldn’t look away. It’s not about why do you care, but how could you not?,” Dabrowski said. “My involvement is just from a passion of wanting to have a safer world for everyone. “We believe it’s a crisis that demands the most urgent action. The stat in itself is unbelievably staggering.
