The 2023 winner of the BBC New Comedy Award, Joe Kent-Walters, joins fellow comedian Sukh Kaur Ojla and others with great advice for anyone looking to find their feet in stand-up or comic writing. The BBC New Comedy Award is about finding the best and brightest new comics from around the country. Ahead of the final of the 2024 edition, held at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham, our reporters our reporters Emma Wootton and Fiona Boyle have been picking the brains of an expert panel at a workshop, at our BBC studios in The Mailbox. This hugely prestigious prize has previously been won by a who’s who of stand-up legends and panel show icons, including but not limited to, Lost Voice Guy, Lucy Beaumont, Angela Barnes, Tom Allen, Rhod Gilbert, Nina Conti, Alan Carr, Josie Long and Marcus Brigstocke.
