Sailing helps Leicester student after cancer op
Available for over a year
A 22 year old cancer survivor from Leicester is thanking a sailing experience for getting him out of "a negative zone". Jitesh Koli, from Leicester, underwent chemotherapy after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma in March 2023 - a rare type of bone cancer, which resulted in his left knee being removed and replaced. The 22-year-old said months of "intense" treatment and recovering from surgery with his family and friends unable to visit him in hospital affected his mental well-being. The third-year aeronautical engineering student at De Montfort University was given an opportunity to sail with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, which he said gave him a positive outlook on life. Jitesh has been talking to BBC Leicester's Ady Dayman.
