When he spoke to the 999 call handler, Jonathan Cresswell was pretending to be a good Samaritan. He claimed to have just found his partner’s sister Katie Simpson after she tried to take her life. In fact, he had brutally attacked her for hours beforehand. He maintained the pretence through her wake, even sitting beside her mother at the funeral. Yet for months, police seemed convinced Katie Simpson's death was a suicide.
