Manningtree Mermaids are a finalist in the Make a Difference Awards green category for 2024. Established in 2002, they're a group of wild swimmers who swim in the River Stour every day. They also campaigned for cleaner water in the Stour, and earlier this year Manningtree was of one three sites in the East of England to be awarded designated bathing water status.
