What makes this Beatles record so rare?

A rare early Beatles single with a glaring spelling error has been up for sale in Chelmsford. The 1962 demo record of the band’s first hit, Love Me Do, was one of a batch of 250 which had Paul McCartney’s surname spelt incorrectly as ‘McArtney’. It was expected to fetch between £7,000 and £9,000 at auction – but it failed to reach the threshold at the sale held by Stacey’s Auctioneers and Valuers.
