Inspired by a phone conversation with her father twenty years ago; when feeling homesick on a tour of New Zealand, her father suggested she “just come on home” if she was feeling so sad. In March of this year, Cara Dillon released a brand new album that was unlike anything she’s released before. Not only was ‘Coming Home’ her first collection of entirely original material but it also saw her combine spoken word with song, exploring themes of motherhood, family, memories and cultural identity. Her show at Derry’s Guildhall on the 22nd March was a profound and intimate reflection of this new work beautifully balanced with old favourites from Cara’s back catalogue.
