When the pits closed young people found themselves without a way into the world of work. Ian Ball, club leader of Dearne Kids, founded a group to keep them away from trouble. Through sports and hobbies such as football, rock climbing and camping, Ian believes young people learn discipline and how to challenge themselves in a safe environment. Local boy Harley is a club regular and his mum Lorissa explains her fears about her son growing up in Thurnscoe.
