8. Electric fields

Bitesize GCSE Physics

Available for over a year

In this episode Ellie Hurer and James Stewart explore electric fields, how they interact with charged objects and how to draw an electric field pattern. Suitable for: AQA, Edexcel, OCR. For more information on electric fields, check out the BBC Bitesize website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z9s4qhv/revision/3 Key learning objectives discussed in this episode: - A charged object creates an electric field around itself. The electric field is strongest close to the charged object. The further away from the charged object, the weaker the field. - A second charged object placed in the field experiences a force. The force gets stronger as the distance between the objects decreases. Students should be able to: - draw the electric field pattern for an isolated charged sphere • explain the concept of an electric field - explain how the concept of an electric field helps to explain the non-contact force between charged objects as well as other electrostatic phenomena such as sparking. Presenters: Ellie Hurer and James Stewart Editing and Sound Design: Sophie Ahmed, Rob Green and Adam Heaton Producer: Rufaro Faith Mazarura Executive Producer: Becky Green An Audio Always production for BBC Bitesize and BBC Sounds.
