Did the Ulster-Scots build America?

The Long and the Short of It

Available for over a year

Tim McGarry, a six foot four comedian, joins vertically challenged Orangeman and historian, Dr David Hume, to look at a number of fascinating historical incidents and people in Irish history. The unlikely duo investigates well known historical events from different perspectives, to give the listener the long and the short of it. In this third episode in the eighth series, they look at the legacy of the Ulster-Scots in the ‘New World’ of America, and discuss whether the migrants to the American continent can lay claim to being a foundational community for the founding fathers. They debate the Ulster-Scots impact with Dr Paddy Fitzgerald and Dr Judith Ridner, plus make a voyage to the Ulster American Folk Park to find out more about the experience of Ulster’s first generation of American expats.
