The great British tradition of 'afternoon tea'
Ben Jackson on BBC Radio LeicesterAvailable for over a year
Afternoon tea, that most quintessential of English customs is, perhaps surprisingly, a relatively new tradition. It all started in the 1800's when Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford who, at the time was a close friend of Queen Victoria and a prominent figure within London society complained of "having that sinking feeling" during the late afternoon. And it's a tradition that thousands of us continue to enjoy to this day. BBC Radio Leicester reporter Sara Palmer talks to Sukh Johal, owner of Cafe Prana in Leicester City centre, on why he wanted to offer a purely vegan or gluten free afternoon tea experience for his customers.
