Apprentices at Bournemouth hotel help fill staff vacancies

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

Trade body UK Hospitality says staffing in the sector is in "serious crisis" here in Dorset and across the UK. The pandemic and Brexit are both being blamed for issues that could leave businesses struggling to cope as the busy holiday season gets underway. James Dixon-Box, Operations Director at the Marsham Court Hotel in Bournemouth, told BBC Radio Solent reporter George Sharpe how the hotel is tackling staff shortages by running apprenticeships and offering training opportunities within the hotel. 16-year-old Katy-Belle Kiteley is one of the hotel's apprentices and hopes to work her way up to management level in the future.
