Tourists have no say over Weymouth car park charges

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

It costs more to park in Weymouth than some other Dorset towns - £4.50 for two hours in the summer, compared with £1.50 in Dorchester. In response, Weymouth cafe owner Nigel Sims-Duff launched a petition. But three days before the deadline, he received an email from Dorset Council saying signatures from people who don't live, or work, in the Dorset Council area don't count. Dorset Council's Director of Legal and Democratic, Jonathan Mair, has been telling Steve Harris why.
