Castle Hill country park is a beautiful expanse of open countryside on the edge of Beaumont Leys in Leicestershire. It has a long history that connects it to, amoungst other things, the Crusades. It is believed to hold the remains of a medieval manorial site linked with the Knights Hospitallers. Some of it has been revealed over the last few summers as archaeologists have been working to reunite the area with its history. The Knights Hospitallers was a medieval Catholic military order founded in the late 11th or early 12th century. They protected the Holy Land and provide care for sick, poor and injured pilgrims travelling there. Historian Peter Liddle and Archaeology expert Mathew Morris explain more about the site and its significance to Ben Jackson.
