'My father has served 4 generations of customers at the Haymarket'

Ady Dayman

Available for over a year

In a few weeks time Leicester's Haymarket shopping centre will celebrate its 50th birthday. When the Haymarket was built, shoppers in Leicester had seen nothing like it. The mall opened on 4th June 1973 as one of the first indoor malls in the country, and soon became one of the city's most recognisable landmarks. Haymarket is celebrating its 50th birthday with a special event on Friday 2nd June inviting shoppers to enjoy the free fun. The mall is also asking shoppers or people who have worked in the centre's shops in the past to share their memories of Haymarket over the past five decades. Reporter Helen McCarthy has been meeting the people who make up the centre.
