'The boat launch was quite an emotional experience'

Ben Jackson on BBC Radio Leicester

Available for over a year

A brand-new wheelchair accessible powerboat has been launched on the River Soar in Leicestershire, thanks to a partnership between two charities. Leicestershire group FS Bulwark Navy Cadet Force - a youth charity encouraging customs and traditions of the Royal Navy & Royal Marines - and national charity The Wheelyboat Trust are behind the scheme. The new boat - a Coulam Wheelyboat V17 - will enable children and young cadets with any type of physical or cognitive disability to take part in water-based activities from their unit’s HQ for the very first time. The new boat is named ‘Lilibet’ after the late Queen Elizabeth II, a name unanimously voted for by the cadets and their parents. Ben Jackson's been to meet Derry Hand, Chairman of FS Bulwark navy cadet force, and to see the new boat in action.
