Rosa Parks speaks in 1964

When, in 1955 Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama, she was arrested and these actions led to the year long boycott that ended with the US Supreme Court ruling that the practice was unlawful. The boycott is one of the earliest examples of non-violent protest in the history of the United States Civil Rights Movement. In 1999 Rosa Parks was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honour the US gives it’s citizens. In 1964, the BBC interviewed her about her part in this momentous piece of history.
