BBC Essex listeners describe hearing a loud noise around 5am on Thursday morning, which reportedly shook some windows and woke people from their sleep. Darren, David and Maureen all heard the noise in South Woodham Ferrers, Sandon and Heybridge respectively. As of 0950 on Thursday morning, there has been no official confirmation as to the cause of the noise, although there was no recorded earthquake on the British Geological Survey website, and the BBC has approached the Ministry of Defence to see if the noise was a sonic boom from an aircraft.
