Episode details

Available for over a year
Most people spend New Years Day having a lazy morning, perhaps a cooked breakfast, followed by a long walk in the countryside to blow away any cobwebs... but not Ken Ryder from Christchurch. The 73 year old spent a whopping 30 hours queuing from 2am on New Years Day to secure a beach hut on Avon beach. He slept in a sleeping bag on a reclining chair and wore five layers of clothing to fight off the foul weather, but insisted that it was all worth it in the end.
