How has your high street changed?

Sonia Watson

Available for over a year

A BBC survey shows that Chelmsford has one of the fastest changing high streets in the UK, losing 34 retail shops but gaining 18 new places to eat and drink in the last two years alone. The figures come from a new BBC survey, looking at the way our high streets have changed since the first lockdown. BBC Essex heads to Chelmsford high street to find out more with Alan Pamphilon, who runs Chelmsford History Walks. We also hear from Beth Gutheil, who opened Luna Grace Hair in Southchurch in June 2021, and Clare Oakey who bucked the trend by opening a second branch of her clothing and gift shop Frippery in Manningtree last summer.
