Ukraine war: How will regaining Kherson impact the war?

Newshour

Available for over a year

It's only weeks since President Putin announced he was annexing the region of Kherson. Since then, the Ukrainians have made advances across south-eastern areas of Ukraine. Russia has now withdrawn from the city of Kherson and Ukrainians have been celebrating. Ukrainian officials remain cautious about what the withdrawal means. Yuriy Sak, an adviser to the Ukrainian defence minister, warned the BBC it was "too early to relax". Emily Ferris, from the military think tank RUSI, gives her analysis on the latest developments: "The rhetoric coming out of the Kremlin really shows that Russia is going to be in this for the long haul and it sees this really as an ideological clash of civilisations between Russia and the West."
