COP27: World leaders ‘aren’t doing the right thing’

Newsday

Available for over a year

The world climate change summit in Egypt is to hear from heads of state and government looking to galvanise global action to tackle climate change. The initial high-level segment of the COP27 gathering in Sharm el-Sheikh will be comprised of leaders’ speeches – from major oil producing economies as well as from developing countries worst-hit by the effects of global warming. Sir Ed Davey is a British politician and Leader of the Liberal Democrats. He is also a former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. He told Newsday: “When I was…kick-starting the offshore wind industry, it was quite expensive but the price has come down dramatically…now wind and solar power are far cheaper than oil and gas…that’s why I get so cross and extremely disappointed when some world leaders…aren’t doing the right thing and they aren’t working with the countries…because we have the technology to have a really successful outcome, which both tackles climate change…but also does that in a way that is affordable.” (Picture: Participants walk outside the Sharm El Sheikh International Convention Centre where the COP27 climate summit is taking place.
