A new home for the Vulcan.

Sonia Watson

Available for over a year

The Vulcan at Southend Airport – XL 426 – is one of only three in the world still running, although it will sadly never fly again. It’s been outside ever since it arrived in 1986, but now it’s going to be “rolled in” to its new home – an enormous hangar – where restoration work will be able to continue all year round. BBC Essex’s Sonia Watson speaks to Peter Archer, one of the vice presidents of the Vulcan Restoration Trust, ahead of the rolling-in ceremony on Saturday 15 October.
