Barrister's strike: 'The system is falling apart due to lack of funding'
Paul SaltAvailable for over a year
Barristers are to hold a demonstration outside Liverpool Crown Court to highlight the issue of low pay. Over the past 3 years, they say the situation has driven 40% of newly qualified barristers to seek work in other more lucrative areas with private companies and in commercial law. Those left behind say the lack of barristers available is causing a huge backlog, preventing those who can't afford to pay for private council of getting their cases to trial, as well as leaving them with a tough financial decision. It's part of ongoing action by the Criminal Bar Association. One of those making a speech there is Junior Barrister from Garden Court North, Mira Hammad.
