Falkland Islands: The importance of war tourism

Alun Newman

Available for over a year

As part of our coverage of the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands war, we’re looking at what life is like now, on the Islands. War tourism is a big draw for visitors – both tourists and veterans - a chance to see the locations and talk over the stories of how the conflict unfolded. The scars – and the machinery – of the many battles still litter the striking landscape and the stunning scenery. Tony Smith is a local tour guide there. A native islander, he was 20 in 1982. He now makes a living doing battleground tours. And he’s taken our reporter Ollie Peart to the site of the final battle of the conflict – which was on a rugged mountain range which overlooks the capital city, Stanley.
