Essex Police speak out after a spate of violent incidents in Southend-on-Sea, with fights and other incidents breaking out on Friday 17 June, which resulted in two people requiring treatment for stab wounds. Officers were given extra powers to move people on after dispersal orders were implemented. Fifteen people were subjected to stop and searches after the increased powers were brought in. Three teenage girls from London were also arrested due to fighting. BBC Essex speaks to Chief Inspector Ian Hughes, Southend’s district commander.
