The first flight taking asylum seekers to Rwanda is set to leave the UK this evening as planned, after a legal challenge against the policy failed. It is thought seven or eight people will be on board. The government insists deportation flights are necessary to combat human trafficking gangs. A group of Church of England bishops have written a letter describing the policy as "immoral" and something that "shames Britain", including the Bishop of Chelmsford, Guli Frances-Dehqani. BBC Essex speaks to Ann Widdecombe, a former Conservative MP, shadow Home Secretary and Brexit MEP, as well as James Wilson who is Deputy Director of Detention Action and was involved in Monday's case, and John Vine who was the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration for more than five years under Theresa May's Home Office.
