Falklands 40th anniversary: Why Islanders still remember

Katie Martin

Available for over a year

Falkland Islanders commemorate Liberation Day on 14th June. Phyl Rendell was born on the Falkland Islands. She's lived there for much of her life and now lives on Bleaker Island, to the south of the main islands. Having married a Royal Marine, she was temporarily away from the islands when Argentine troops invaded in 1982 and wasn't able to return until after the conflict. She spoke to BBC Radio Solent's Ollie Peart about the importance of remembering the efforts of the British troops who liberated the island and how Islanders still feel immense gratitude to those who fought for their freedom.
