Veteran sailor reaches Dorset on epic 8,000 mile walk round entire GB coast

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

A former sailor walking more than 8,000 miles round the entire coast of mainland UK has spent the weekend trekking in south Dorset. Jim Morton set off from South Yorkshire on 12th April last year and has averaged more than 20 miles a day during his epic challenge. The Royal Navy veteran is raising money for the Gurkha Welfare Trust and has also planned to visit every coastal lighthouse. Today, the 61 year old will walk along Chesil Beach, having completed legs from Durlston to Lulworth on Friday, then on to Weymouth before going round the Isle of Portland yesterday. You can follow Jim's adventures on his Facebook page called "I may be gone a while". BBC Radio Solent reporter Laurence Herdman went to meet him.
