Rise in "pet nups"

Ben Fryer

Available for over a year

What happens to your pet if you and your partner separate? More couples are apparently signing up for "pet nups" - a legal agreement setting out who gets custody of the beloved pets if they split up. Some 3.2 million UK households reportedly got a pet during lockdown, so could we be seeing more of this type of legal agreement? BBC Essex speaks to Karen Dovaston, chair of the Law Society's Family Law Committee and from Dovaston Law, based in Southend-on-Sea.
