Energy bills rise for Essex businesses

Sonia Watson

Available for over a year

Businesses in the county tell BBC Essex they're worried for their futures, due to the rising cost of energy. They include Michael Campbell, who manages The Hare and The Hounds in High Garrett. He says his pub is facing a £12,000 increase for gas, and almost £20,000 extra for electricity. He says it's "another kick in the teeth" coming so soon after the pandemic and its impact on the hospitality sector. BBC Essex also speaks to Sue Schwar, who runs the South Essex Wildlife Hospital. She says they are "frantically worried" about the rising cost of energy and what it means for her charity.
