Mum has a visit from one of her oldest friends, while son Andrew needs to get her a new pair of glasses

Andrew Edwards

Available for over a year

Son Andrew gets a call from the care company to say that Mum's glasses have snapped, so his first job is to get a replacement pair. It's hard to know what she sees or understands now but she has double vision without them. However it takes him a while to find the spares. He hid them when, earlier in the progression of her dementia, she had a habit of putting on an old pair, instead of the current ones! After lunch Barbara, one of Carolyn's oldest friends, comes to visit and is rewarded with a smile. Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary was originally broadcast on BBC Radio Leeds.
