Aston Villa have named the former Liverpool and England midfielder, Steven Gerrard, as their new manager. Villa sacked Dean Smith last weekend after a run of five successive defeats. Gerrard leaves his job at Rangers, having guided the Glasgow club to their first Scottish title in 10 years last season.
