Very rare bird found in Dorset garden after absence of more than two centuries.

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

It's hoped that a very rare bird found in Dorset will be offered its final resting place in a museum. Dorchester decorator and part-time bird watcher Lawrence Dagnall discovered the White's Thrush in a Weymouth garden. Sadly, the bird had perished when it collided with a window. The identity of the White's Thrush was confirmed by the warden at Portland Bird Observatory, Martin Cade. It last appeared in Dorset more than two centuries ago. BBC Radio Solent reporter Laurence Herdman has been speaking with Lawrence Dagnall about the chance discovery.
