The six weekly visit of hairdresser Elaine underlines how quickly Mum's going downhill

Andrew Edwards

Available for over a year

Mum has a visit from home hairdresser Elaine every six weeks. Last time she and son Andrew walked Carolyn through to the kitchen where she sat, unaided, on her perching chair for a trim. Now she needs to be moved around by a hoist, so stays in her reclining chair. Andrew cradles his Mum's head allowing Elaine to reach behind with the scissors. It's a stark reminder of Mum's deteriorating condition, measured over regular intervals - she's gone downhill sharply in the last month and a half. Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary was originally broadcast on BBC Radio Leeds.
