HGV driver shortage: Dorset Trailer Training takes £80,000 hit as DVSA scrap mandatory trailer testing

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

How safe would you feel towing a trailer or a caravan - particularly if you've only just passed your driving test? And did you know that the rules for towing have changed? Recently, the government announced a range of measures to help solve the chronic shortage of HGV drivers. One of those changes was unveiled last week. A legal requirement for younger drivers to take a test to tow a trailer or caravan is set to be shelved. The impact for one Poole firm has been devastating. BBC Radio Solent reporter Laurence Herdman has been to meet Richard Husher from Dorset Trailer Training.
