How does a club operate during, before and after a transfer window? Since promotion from the Championship in the summer, Brentford have had an excellent start to life in the top flight. But behind the scenes there has been a careful, analyical process at work when it comes to recruitment - which has seen the club buy talent from lower down the football pyramid and sell players - like Ollie Watkins and Neal Maupay - on for big profits. So how do that process translate to operating in the frantic, win at all costs, short termism of the Premier League? Co-Director of Football Phil Giles sat down with Nick Godwin - and to start was asked if he'd been able to ease off a bit in recent days after that window slammed shut...
