Walsall began their EFL Trophy campaign with a 1-0 victory over Brighton‘s Under 23’s, the only goal of the game coming from Kieron Phillips on the stroke of half-time. Saddlers Boss Matt Taylor thought his side should have won the game by a bigger margin.
