Bournemouth Air Festival: Ditched wing-walker plane 'almost hit us'

Lucy Ambache

Available for over a year

A sailor has told BBC Radio Solent how a plane that ditched in the sea during the Bournemouth Air Festival narrowly avoided crashing into the boat he was on. The bi-plane, which had a wing-walker on top, crashed into the sea on Saturday just yards from the Sandbanks chain ferry, in very busy waters. Both people on board suffered only minor injuries and have been released from hospital. No one else was hurt. Poole resident Owain Hughes was on board Pip Hare's Vendee Globe yacht which had just been part of a flotilla in the water off Bournemouth. He told BBC Radio Solent's Sunday Breakfast presenter, Lucy Ambache, how close the plane came as they sailed back into Poole Harbour.
